L.A. Roddick: Musician, Educator, and Performer
L.A. Roddick’s lifelong dedication to music spans both the stage and the classroom. Starting her journey as a young artist with a foundation in Musical Theatre, Roddick honed her skills as a seasoned singer, dancer, and actor for Viacom Paramount Canada’s Wonderland, before venturing into the music and recording scene. Her powerful, emotive voice quickly caught the attention of industry veterans, including renowned producer Stephan Maccio (Celine Dion, Josh Groban) and EMI Records’ Bonnie Federo. Their encouragement, paired with Roddick’s relentless drive, fueled her commitment to developing her unique sound.
Roddick refined her craft by studying at Sheridan College’s Musical Theatre program and Humber College’s jazz program, while also recording demos with world-class musicians and producers. She worked with notable artists such as drummers Randy Cooke (Ringo Starr), guitarists Colin Linden (Bruce Cockburn) and Justin Abedin (Nelly Furtado), as well as engineers Richard Chycki (Aerosmith) and Nick Blagona (Foo Fighters). These experiences helped Roddick grow artistically, exploring diverse musical genres from R&B to Jazz and Funk. Over time, she gained recognition as one of Canada’s most in-demand live performers.
Relocating to Regina, Roddick found a new home in the music scene, performing across the Prairie Provinces with her band "Sound Decision" and touring with the Pop-Country group "Lace," whose hit single “Can You Handle It” garnered radio attention in 2005. Her versatility not only as a frontman, but also as a side keyboardist and backup singer led her to perform with multiple local artists including Jess Moskaluke and J.J. Voss, further expanding her musical portfolio.
Roddick’s passion for music is matched only by her commitment to education. For nearly 20 years, she has served as head of the Vocal and Piano program at "Music in the House," Regina’s top music education school, which is home to nearly 400 students. Her dedication to fostering talent led to the addition of the esteemed "Music for Young Children" program to the music school, which has been offered for over 45 years across three continents.
Beyond performing, Roddick is deeply invested in nurturing the next generation of musicians through private lessons and group programs. Her ongoing contributions to music education reflect her passion for helping others discover their musical potential, and she looks forward to continuing her work for many years to come.
